Making An Axe Sheath using a Tin Can

Ed from Niagara Bushcrafters presents this simple axe sheath is designed to be made with just a few simple tools.

These tools include:

• Scissors
• Electrical Tape
• Tin Coffee Can bottom
• Jute twine or paracord
• Bicycle inner-tube
• Awl or punch

1. To start the process, ensure that your tin can bottom is at least the size of your axe head in at the centre of the lid.
2. Bend the lid over the axe blade in the middle, it should look like a metal taco shell.
3. Put 3 or 4 holes on each side of the outside edge of your taco shell tin
4. Insert a piece of bicycle inner-tube into the taco-shaped tin, to hold the blade in place and ensure nothing gets damaged over time.
5. Put lengths of twine in each hole you punched in the tin
6. Take the bicycle inner-tube and it into small bands. Insert one band in each side of the twine.
7. Set the axe in the metal taco shell you created.
8. Take another piece of twine and attach it to the rubber bands. This will ensure you will always have tension on the sheath. Leave some extra so you can adjust and tighten it over time.
9. Wrap some electrical tape around the jute, and bent end of the tin to hold the rubber inner-tube in place when the axe is removed.
