“Making fire is a form of prayer. With your hands together you bow over and over hoping that fire will come and visit you. With the smoke rising, you send prayers and thanks to the sky. This is how the oldest Gods were worshipped. Gods of bone, and wood, and rock, and blood.”
~Luke McLaughlin (Holistic Survival School)

For almost a MILLION YEARS humans have created fire. Neanderthals (the dominant humanoid species before modern humans) learned the secrets of fire.
Fire has allowed humans to leave the warm, comfortable temperate zones on the planet and spread out everywhere in search of food and resources.
In this hands-on workshop topics include:
Fire helps us keep warm, cook food, and ward off threats
In our modern lives we use fire almost every day for something. It powers most of our cars. It heats our homes, it powers war. (The proper name for a gun is FIREarm)

Barefoot Bushcraft acknowledges the land on which we gather was the historic territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous peoples.
