Canine Crisis Management
At any time, your dog – a member of your family, may have a remote medical crisis in which you need to care for them.
Your dog is a member of your family, and will travel the world with you. Many people take Wilderness First Aid and CPR courses to assist in helping other humans in their time of crisis, but what about your dog? What skills do you have to help your dog if they get into a situation where there is little to no emergency medical assistance? Can you help them if they are injured?
Knowledge in Canine Crisis Management may help save your pets life! This course is not a replacement veterinarian care, but designed for people who will be taking their dogs to remote locations which are two hours or more away from urgent medical care. For example a multi-day canoe trip, mountaineering expedition, long road trip, etc.
The Canine Crisis Management is designed to advance your knowledge base and confidence to assist a pet who has become injured or ill and is more than two hours away from veterinary care. The course focuses on administering proper care to your pet, dealing with wilderness crisis situations, and evacuating them from the situation.
This hands-on course allows participants to learn and practice CPR, and assist a choking dog. The course also demonstrates how to adapt household items and back country items such as backpacks, duct tape, jackets, rope, saran wrap, scarfs, and sticks into crisis management tools.
The Canine Crisis Management course is a great course for individuals working in the pet industry such as groomers, as well as anyone who travels with their dog into the back country. The course is also of great benefit to those who work professionally in the outdoors such as Sled Dog mushers and outdoor educators.

Barefoot Bushcraft acknowledges the land on which we gather was the historic territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous peoples.
